bhhs-newletter-letter-head.jpg Hello friends and neighbors.

If you have driven past the museum, you can see that it’s been a busy off season at the Loveland House. We’re in the home stretch of completing the replacement of the exterior trim and siding on the house guaranteeing many more years to our 1887 home. This effort has been undertaken to preserve our home’s historic presence. We were presented an award in 2008 from the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission for our exterior preservation efforts, and that was before our current efforts.

bhhs-questers_check_closeup.jpg The BHHS is pleased to note that we have just received a grant from the Sweetgrass Chapter of Quester’s International in the amount of $2000. Pictured at the check presentation are Doris Czarnecki, Marilyn Kilrain, outgoing president of Sweetgrass, Peter Harrington, President of Bay Head Historical Society and Barbara Marino, incoming president of Sweetgrass. The generous check will be used to further our building restoration.

Behind the scenes, we are establishing an archiving, conservation and production office for our volunteers to utilize. This facility will streamline several things we now do offsite and will enable us to enhance the experiences we offer. Now we can begin the formal archiving of our growing collection. In all seriousness, few (including myself) could have imagined where the BHHS is today as we celebrate 10 years as owners of the Loveland Homestead. We have watched as word spread and people now come in droves for our exhibits and events. We are truly blessed with such rich history and a generous community willing to support our efforts. Thank you one and all. As I’ve stated many times; “We do what we do because of you.”

I am happy to tell you that we are entering our second year of organic care for the museum grounds and things are definitely looking green.

I would like to make a personal pitch to everyone, please sign up to receive our e-mail newsletter. Our website is a reality www.bayheadhistoricalsociety.org; postage is going up again, this will help us best utilize our precious resources. An expanded events calendar and BHHS information is available now.

In closing, our building restoration effort, while necessary to protect our 140 year old investment, has been at the same time draining on our modest resources. A friend of the BHHS will match dollar for dollar the all donations of up to $5,000.00. Please take this opportunity to make a donation and help us maximize this generous offer. (See coupon the reverse.)

See exciting events calendar on the following page.

Hope to see you all of you during our 2009 season,

Peter Harrington
President
